Ameya Pawar calls on Governor Bruce Rauner, Republican congressional delegation to demand resignation of Republican Rep. Steve King

CHICAGO — Ameya Pawar, 47th Ward Alderman and Democratic candidate for Illinois governor, issued the following statement in response to Iowa Congressman Steve King’s recent remarks that “Hispanics and the blacks will be fighting each other” before overtaking whites in population:

“As the son of immigrants, I am deeply troubled by the racist comments Iowa Republican Congressman Steve King made today. We cannot sit by and continue to let demagogues divide us. Our culture and our communities are stronger because of the diversity of our people. Bruce Rauner and the Illinois Republican congressional delegation must swiftly and harshly denounce this insensitive rhetoric and demand the immediate resignation of Congressman Steve King.”

King’s comments were made Monday on the Jan Mickelson Show won WHO Radio in Des Moines, Iowa
